ABSTRACT
Background: It has been well documented on the low CSR in China and barriers to achieve a higher CSR. However, it has not been tackled how the influence of CSR by different type of surgical operations. This paper is to discuss the specific surgical technique of cataract remove for those with hard nucleus and the potential increase of CSR in China .
Methods: 2000 patients (2000 eyes) with aged-related cataract were operated using Phacoemulsification, phacofragmentation, rotatable chopping technique and small incision cataract extraction (SIMN-ECCE) and IOL implantation. The visual acuity and the complications of surgery were recorded in 1 day and 1 week post-op. The data was processed with SPSS Version 11.0 .The chi-square test was used for comparisons involving categorical variables. p<0.05 was statistically significant.
Results: Among the 2000 patients, 828 males and 1172 females were involved in. The percentage of Grade Ⅳ is 37.1% and 25.5% respectively in two periods and the difference was greatly statistically significant (p<= 0.001). The difference of black cataract in urban and rural area, complications and vision acuity of 1 week post-op with the four types of surgeries was statistically insignificant (p> 0.05). But the values of corneal edema after 1 week post-op in GradeⅠand Grade Ⅱwith the four types of surgeries showed significant difference ( p≤0.001).
Conclusion: Adopting flexible surgical techniques may achieve a better vision outcome, decrease the cost of operation and in the means time could increase the rate of CSR.
